Principles of Privacy Friendly Apps

Karola edited this page Dec 25, 2016 · 1 revision

All Privacy Friendly Apps share common principles:

  1. Minimal amount of permissions Privacy Friendly Apps only use permissions that are required for their functionality. Thus, each used permission used can be connected to a concrete functionality of the app. Of course this could also include some "nice to have"-features. On the help page within the app the user gets information about all used permissions and their purpose.

  2. Open Source License and publication of source code All Privacy Friendly Apps are published on github.com and have an Open Source License. The license used is either Apache2 or GPLv3.

  3. No inclusion of advertisement No Privacy Friendly App includes advertisement. Advertising could include tracking mechanisms and thus, be a treat to the user's privacy. It furthermore could shorten battery life or use mobile data.
