Zhongjing: The First Chinese Medical Mega-Model Implementing the Entire Pipeline from Pre-training to RLHF

Recently, large language models like ChatGPT have shown remarkable performance in many fields. However, due to the complexity and specificity of domains like medicine, these models perform relatively poorly in specialized fields (such as medicine). Although some Chinese medical mega-models have emerged, they primarily fine-tune basic models on inconsistent single-round medical dialogues, leading to limited improvements.
Zhongjing-LLaMA is the first Chinese medical mega-model to implement the complete training process of pre-training, supervised fine-tuning, and Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback (RLHF), demonstrating impressive generalization capabilities. In some dialogue scenarios, it even approaches the professional level of medical doctors.
Additionally, we meticulously constructed a dataset of 70,000 multi-turn dialogues entirely sourced from real doctor-patient conversations. This dataset contains numerous proactive inquiry statements from doctors, helping enhance the model's capability for active medical questioning.

All training processes demonstrate effective convergence.
- CMtMedQA: Contains a dataset of 70,000 multi-turn dialogues sourced from real doctor-patient interactions, including numerous proactive inquiry statements.
- CMtMedQA_test: Contains a test set of 1000 entries for evaluating the model's multi-turn dialogue capability, including 200 entries for assessing the model's response to Chinese medical safety, including induced attacks and extreme questions.
- RLHF Sample Data: Contains 2000 entries for training the reward model.

We use a combination of GPT-4 and professional doctors' assessment methods to evaluate the model's dialogue capabilities from the perspectives of safety, professionalism, and fluency. The evaluation results are shown in the following figure:
Although our model has made significant progress in Chinese medical capabilities, there is still room for improvement in safety and professionalism. In some cases, it may provide unexpected answers. This model is only for research purposes, and all medical risks arising from the use of this model are borne by the user.
