WidgetsBinding is never null
The previous release accidentally broke compatibility with Flutter v2, but made it compatible with Flutter v3. This commit reverts that so that the 0.4.x release line stays compatible with Flutter v2.
Migration Guide: This release drops support for Flutter v2, and adds support for Flutter v3. Make sure to upgrade to Flutter v3 when upgrading to this version.

This PR will (probably) fix LinusU#135
Also, it rebases the current master to the one from Linus (without applying the upstream changes as they have already been applied before)
