Add a 'Save & Backup' tool item to each of the LibreOffice Stardard Bars (in: Base, Calc, etc.).

  • a) First click here to download the AnnotatedBackups.gif icon to your desktop or somewhere.

  • b) Do the following similarly for each of: Base, Calc, Draw, Impress, Math, & Writer:

    • b1) For Writer, Open or create a new text document with something like: Open Menu> File | New | Text Document

    • b2) Then select Menu> Tools | Customize...

      (opens Customize dialog)

      • b2.1) Select the 'Toolbars' tab (if it's not already selected)

      • b2.2) Set 'Toolbar' to "Standard" (this puts the new menu button in your main icon tool bar).

      • b2.3) Tip: in the 'Toolbar Content' / 'Commands' sub-window, if you select the "Save As..." item before proceeding new item will be inserted directly underneath "Save As...", which is a good location for your new "Save & Backup" tool. You can also reposition it later with the up and down arrows.

      • b2.4) Set 'Save In' to "LibreOffice Basic" (this installed the tool for all of your Writer documents).

      • b2.5) Add a new menu tool. Click the 'Add...' button.

        (opens Add Commands dialog)

        • Under Category select:
'LibreOffice Macros' > My Macros > Standard > AnnotatedBackups

        • Under Commands select:
"AnnotatedBackups" and and click the 'Add' button
(adds this to the menu in the already open Customize dialog)

        • Click Close
('AnnotatedBackups' will have been added to your Toolbar Content)

      • b2.6) Set the Tool Tip (name). Select the new AnnotatedBackups entry and click the 'Modify' 'Rename...'.

        (opens Rename Toolbar dialog)

        • Rename AnnotatedBackups Tool Tip to 'Save & Backup'.
      • b2.7) Click the 'Modify' pull down button again and select 'Change Icon...'

        (opens Change Icon dialog)

        Click the 'Import...' button.
In the file type pull down select the GIF file filter
        Then locate and open 'AnnotatedBackups.gif'
Select the new icon, then click Ok.

    • b3) If still necessary, use the up or down arrow buttons to move AnnotatedBackups just below 'Save As...'

    • b4) Verify your new menu looks like this showing the new button with a 'Save & Backup' tool tip when you hover over it:

showing 'Save and Backup' button tool tip\

    • b5) When done Click Ok

  • c) Now repeat this process for each of these other LibreOffice modules: Base, Calc, Draw, Impress, and Math.
