Getting Started at a Contributor Day
This guide is a quick starting point for first-time contributors to the Showcase work. If you are at a Contributor Day, this can help point you in the right direction.
There are a few tools and credentials you'll need before you start contributing. If you haven’t set them up already, follow the quick steps below or visit this page for more detailed instructions.
- Create an account on WordPress.org: Follow the registration steps at login.wordpress.org/register to create your username and account. Or, if you haven’t logged in recently, recover your account: login.wordpress.org/lostpassword.
- Join Making WordPress Slack: Contributors use Slack to communicate and collaborate. Follow these instructions to set up your Slack account.
- Sign up for a GitHub account: Work on the Showcase is managed and shared in the Marketing repository on GitHub. Visit github.com/signup to create your account.
The Showcase shows the world what can be done with WordPress. It demonstrates the publishing platform's capabilities with a wide array of use cases, including sites for personal bloggers, small businesses, enterprise companies, and national governments.
The Showcase is important to show the world the vast number of websites that can be built on WordPress, but we need help moderating and writing copy for Showcase submissions. Because WordPress is an open source platform, it depends on contributors like you who collaborate and contribute to making it better for everyone.
This a great area to contribute if you have an interest in:
- Promoting WordPress, its features, and success stories to a broader audience.
- Learning about the websites and brands using WordPress as a platform.
- Writing and editing content that showcases the capabilities and diverse uses of WordPress.
Based on your experience with marketing, copywriting, or WordPress contribution in general, one of these two areas would be perfect for Contributor Day:
