Welcome to the beng-lod-server wiki!
The LOD server for Beeld en Geluid (beng) serves items from the NISV catalogue management system (DAAN) as linked data. It also provides a mechanism to get data in different profiles, using profile negotiation (this is intended to become a W3C recommendation). Our implementation assumes that the profile is put in the Accept-Profile parameter. Currently, the NISV proprietary schema and the schema.org ontology are the available profiles. On the open data version only the schema.org profile is available (because of copyrights).
Publishing NISV data as linked data means that each series, season, program and scene description has its own unique identifier, or CoolURI. Using this stable HTTP URI, a data description about the resource is provided. When you navigate to this URI in your browser, an HTML lod-view page is shown.
Behind the scenes, this LOD server transforms the JSON payload coming from the archive, into RDF representations, each accessible online via its unique identifier. This enables us to collect item descriptions and load them into a triple store, a special database for RDF data. This provides us with a SPARQL service that enables us to search and visualise the data.
If content is playable or viewable online, a link to the General Public Portal page for the item is provided in the metadata, allowing people to find the location and view the material.
The beng-lod-server also provides information about the open datasets that NISV is publishing. These datasets are part of an open data catalog.
Please take note of the fact that the data catalog is loaded from the file data_catalog.ttl
. This Turtle file can be generated using beng-dataset-importer that includes the information from a shared spreadsheet that holds the dataset information. beng-lod-server queries the triple store that contains the data_catalog file in a named graph.
