🎉 Overview

This 0.1 Alpha release marks the first public test version of the Morro Taxi app. Designed to enable initial feedback, this alpha includes core features for driver and rider interactions, foundational backend integration, and the core location tracking needed for real-time ride-sharing. This release is not yet production-ready, so please expect incomplete features and potential bugs.

✨ Key Features

  • Mapbox Integration: Maps rendered with Mapbox, chosen for better scalability and flexibility for location-based functionalities.
  • Basic Ride Request Flow: Users can now request rides and drivers can accept them, with fundamental functionality for managing ride statuses (e.g., pending, accepted).
  • Location Tracking: Real-time location updates implemented through MQTT to ensure smooth tracking and dispatch for drivers and riders.
  • Initial UI/UX Design: Basic UI components for the ride request and trip management flow, allowing users to interact with the essential features.
  • Backend with PostgreSQL & PostGIS: Location data and user sessions are managed through PostgreSQL, with PostGIS enabling efficient geographic data handling.

🔧 Known Issues

  • Performance: Some features may respond slower than expected, as performance optimizations are planned for future releases.
  • Unstable MQTT Subscriptions: Occasional failures in ride request subscription, which will be improved in upcoming updates.
  • Error Handling: Minimal error handling in the app; future versions will introduce more robust error messages and handling.
  • Limited Map Interactivity: Currently, the Mapbox integration covers only basic needs, and improvements for user interaction are planned.

📌 Notes for Testers

  • Testing Focus: We appreciate feedback on ride requests, location tracking accuracy, and the general UX of driver and rider flows.
  • Non-Production Ready: This alpha version is strictly for testing purposes and is not recommended for live use.
  • File Size Limitations: Please note the upload limit of 25MB, as larger files may not be supported.
