Chrome Extension for Getting an Audio Alert When It's Your Turn on www.maimmunizations.org to Sign Up for the COVID Vaccine

How to Use the Extension

I have a demo video here: https://youtu.be/CSqCguaFOug and I also have instructions written out below.

• When you go to maimmunizations.org, you will see a modal with instructions, which say: "For this extension to be allowed to make noise, Google Chrome requires you to interact with the page before it can produce sounds. Please click anywhere on the page. It doesn't need to be a link – you can click on any text, image, or blank white space on the page. Doing this will tell Chrome you allow sound. You will hear a test ringing noise first, to confirm you have allowed sound." That modal looks like this:

• You will only ever see the above modal with instructions once.

• If you do click in the right place, you will see a success alert and hear a brief test noise:

  • Once you've seen this alert, you are all set.

• If you do not click somewhere on the page to give sound permissions, you will see:

• If you see the above, it means you still need to click somewhere (anywhere) on the page to give sound permissions to this extension

• When the www.maimmunizations.org page changes to show the Sign Up search form (or to show the pre-signup page, which apparently only sometimes shows up for people), you will hear five rings. When the website displays either of these pages, it means it's your turn, and that is when the extension will ring:

         

Installation

To use the extension, you need to download and install it with the steps below.

• Download the extension: https://github.com/cjaiello/MA-COVID-Vaccine-Signup-Ringer/archive/main.zip
  • It will be in the Chrome Extension Store soon. It's currently pending approval.
  • This ZIP file is created by Github, not by me. That link above is the same link you hit if you click 'Code' and then 'Download ZIP':

• Unzip the folder on your computer
• Here is a gif of the rest of the installation steps, and the steps are also written out below this gif:

• Steps shown in the gif:
  • Go to your extensions in Chrome (either copy and paste chrome://extensions/ into your browser, or go to the three dots menu, click More Tools, and click Extensions)
  • In the upper right corner, click the switch to turn on Developer Mode
  • In the upper left corner, click the "Load unpacked" button
  • Click on the folder (not the zip folder, but the unzipped folder) for this extension
  • And that's it! Now just go to www.maimmunizations.org

         

How to Uninstall and Reinstall

• Here is a gif of full reinstallation steps, and the steps are also written out below this gif:

  • Go to your extensions in Chrome (either copy and paste chrome://extensions/ into your browser, or go to the three dots menu, click More Tools, and click Extensions)
  • Click "Remove" in the box for the extension
  • Click "Remove" again to finish uninstalling
  • Now you can do the installation instructions again, which are right above this!
