The .war file is a TOMCAT servlet which provides the Open Federated Search web-app.

The .jar file is for installation as a stored procedure within a Derby Database within the GaianDB system, as described in the installation instructions on the README page. This particular jar is to enable the Open Federated Search system to be used with Elasticsearch. Similar jars could be created for other search engines to enable them to be used within this Open Federated Search system.
