Minutes

Present:

  • Esmé Cowles (Princeton)
  • Josh Westgard (Maryland)
  • Brian Brown (Florida State)
  • Betsy Post and Chris Mayo (Boston College)
  • Karen Estlund (Penn State)

Discussion:

  1. Newspapers in PCDM
    • Specifically question of articles as members of issues
    • This has been a problem for a long time because different institutions have very different data and goals
    • Problem is similar to chapters in a book:
      • Model as a single node with hash URI resources
      • Directly contained under the parent resource
      • Triggers Fedora bug where lots of members becomes resource intensive
    • Another aspect of this question is using IIIf ranges to model articles
    • One could model newspaper data in IIIf only and be done
    • One could, alternatively, model in PCDM and map that to IIIf
  2. Conferences:
    • Would it be useful to have a PCDM meetup at upcoming conferences?
    • Examples of relevant confs are Code4Lib, LDCX, CNI, OR, IIIf
    • Karen E. will create a Google form to solicit feedback/signups
  3. How to get more people on these calls?:
    • Remind folks on other calls
    • Some folks are tasked with reporting back for other groups, so raw attendance may not reflect wider interest in the content discussed on these calls
  4. Karen E. volunteered to facilitate next month's call.
