Injection release

This version adds the injectEBIFramework.js file that loads the wrapper HTML, CSS and JS.

It's a good option for legacy sites that might need new branding added, or for simple pages where it's too much of a hassle to add in the wrapper code.

Wherever you use it, performance will not be the greatest.

At the 6 December Web Guidelines Committee meeting the EBI Visual Framework v1.1 became "stable". Edits will now focus on bug fixing, the pattern library, and planning for a 1.2 release in summer 2017.

Release Candidate 2 Pre-release
Pre-release

The EBI Visual Framework continues its final polishing ahead of an expected release later in December.

A summary of changes since last week's RC1.

  • Footer links are no longer tainted by site colours: 50bff6e
  • Global header
    • Search dropdown is slightly better positioned: eaa8bb0
    • Centralise search form control ahead of update to EBI Search endpoint 9770a5c
    • Only show EMBL toggle arrow when Foundation is running 8acfa07

What's next?

  • Pattern library: Work continues on documentation and patterns, this will continue to be a major theme over the next several months.
  • Lite version: There is active work for a possible v1.1-lite edition targeted at sites still using the old EBI Mitigation theme or with special needs. However note that this is currently planned as a short life project aiming to help along sites with special needs and their own active development teams.

Release Candidate 1 Pre-release
Pre-release

After several months of testing, changes to the code structure and functionality have settled.

Notable changes from the last release:

This is a final call for structural changes before we move into a bug fix and maintenance release cycle as we prepare for v1.2 this summer.

If you have concerns or ideas, be sure to post them to the issue queue or pass them along to Web Development.

Compliant sites are expected to migrate by February 2017.

If you have a legacy site using the EBI Mitigation theme that you're having trouble updating to the full EBI Visual Framework, this might help. Or if you're a heavy Bootstrap user, this may be better.

Feedback welcome as we assess the demand and interest!
