Digital Race Contest 2019
According to the latest announcement from the Organization board of Digital Race 2018–2019, the school round will be held from January 8th to January 23rd, 2019 at 9 locations in the North-Central-South. At this round, there will be 3 small rounds: Image processing capacity, Critical thinking, and Fast programming skills. In particular, the round of image processing capacity will account for 40% of the final score.

According to information from the Organizing Committee of the contest, registration round of Digital Race 2018–2019 with the theme “Programming self-propelled vehicles” has ended. The first destination of the school round will be Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, which will take place on Tuesday, January 8th, 2019. Next, in the two days of January 12th and January 13th, 2019, the school round will be held in turn at the University of Technology, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and the general test location in Ho Chi Minh City.
In addition, the six other test locations of this round were also fixed by the Organization Board at University of Science, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (January 14th, 2019); the general test location in the Central Vietnam (January 16th, 2019); FPT University (January 17th, 2019); the general test location in Hanoi (January 19th, 2019); Hanoi University of Science and Technology (January 22nd, 2019) and University of Engineering and Technology – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (January 23rd, 2019).
With the aim to boost the field of automobile technology research and development in Vietnam in accordance with the latest trend of the 4.0 revolution, since 2016, FPT has continuously organized the Digital Race. This contest helps Vietnamese students not only learn the knowledge of new technology but also have the opportunity to directly participate in the software industry for self-propelled cars. This is also a playground for students of technical schools to show their knowledge of technology, programming and image processing capacity that is cultivated in university lectures and practical technology skills. Following the success of the first two seasons, Digital Race 2018–2019 keeps the same spirit and adds many outstanding changes to encourage technology students to attend.
Specifically, participating in Digital Race 2018–2019 with the theme “Programming self-propelled vehicles”, students will research, create and experience the latest technology in the field of self-propelled vehicles and have the opportunity to receive the total award amount of up to more than VND 1.5 billion. In particular, the award for the winning team is an experiencing trip, learning about new technologies in the US or Japan within 1 week, the cash prize of VND 15 million and a scholarship for Doctor of Artificial Intelligence at Vietnam National University, Hanoi for the best candidate. Top 4 teams that can enter the final round will have the opportunity to receive paid internships and jobs at the Technology Department, FPT Group. Along with those are many other cash prizes for participating teams.
The theme of this year’s contest is also improved compared to that of the previous year. Specifically, in the final round, the contestants will have to program their vehicles to identify and obey the traffic signs, identify and avoid obstacles, handle interference signals; go through locations in turn based on the given topic of the Organization Board.
Each team consists of 3–4 members from the same university. The Organization Board encourages the team should have 2 members majoring in IT, 1 member majoring in mechatronics and one member majoring in electronics and telecommunications; team members have knowledge related to image processing, statistical machine learning, embedded programming, ROS programming, artificial intelligence, programming knowledge on Linux,etc.; and know how to use C/C ++ programming language…
According to the Organization Board ‘s plan, from the preliminary round at the school level, there will be a maximum of 20 most excellent teams representing the participating schools for the final round. In the final round, semi-final matches are scheduled to be held in March 2019 to find a minimum of 6 most outstanding teams representing Vietnamese universities in the Finale.
At the Final match that is scheduled to take place about from April 20th to May 25th, 2019, teams will be required to program the vehicles to run in the lane under changing lighting conditions; avoid sidewalks; delineate, identify and avoid obstacles (with any shape) appearing on the road, automatically analyze the type of obstacles that are possibly stabbed or not, and then a decision to move can be made; identify and act according to traffic signs. In this final match, with the plan of the Organization Board to invite a number of teams from universities in the Asian area to participate, teams of Vietnamese students who have the right to compete in the final match will have a chance to exchange and learn more knowledge and skills to be well prepared to work in the global environment.
