Hey @xstefank thanks a lot for this PR. You are right, this would indeed fix it. There are some deprecations we also would need to take care of soon, but it wouldn't be an immediate problem.

I'm really sorry that I have to close this. I know it's only a small change, but it's good to see when users help out in case the maintainer is just too busy to find time :)

I already worked on bringing the whole build system to IJ Platform Gradle plugin 2.0 here

It seems I fixed all outstanding issues including the GitHub build and we can create a new release.

That's OK @halirutan. I can understand. As long as you allow me to use your awesome plugin in EAP releases, all good :)
