Since Jan 2017, the Anaconda release, it's really easy to install PiTubeDirect on your Pi:

format SD Card to FAT32
unzip the latest release package from here.

Next Recommended config.txt and cmdline.txt options

(If you have compiled your own custom kernel, then copy that over the top)
