What you get: checklist

Hardware

• 1x FOSDEM branded camera box (for streaming the video captured in the room)
• 1x FOSDEM branded presenter box (for streaming slides and optionally audio from the presenter's laptop)
• HINT: The presenter box takes only VGA in. FOSDEM does not supply {HDMI-,Display,DVI, whatever}->VGA adapters. Please provide those yourself!
• 1x Sony HXR-NX[0-9]? camera with AC power supply
• 1x tripod for mounting the camera
• TODO: CHECK 2x XLR cable for feeding the speaker's microphone into the camera XLR inputs
• 1x wireless microphone for the speaker
• TODO: FOSDEM 1x spare batteries for speaker wireless microphone
• TODO: CHECK 1x wireless microphone for questions from the audience
• 1x HDMI cable male/male
• 1x SDI ("BNC") cable 75 Ohm
• 2x 1.8m VGA cable male/male
• 2x 1.8m PSU cable with CEE7/6 plug
• 2x audio cable shielded stereo unbalanced 3.5mm jack male <-> 6.5mm jack male
• 1x ethernet cable (for linking presenter box and camera box)
• 1x ethernet FOSDEM network uplink
• 2x2 electric outlet: camera box, camera, presenter laptop, presenter box
• HINT: Do you have special electric outlet needs? Please provide those yourself!

Cabling

Presenter box

• Connect the presenter box PSU IN connector to an AC outlet.
• Connect the speaker's laptop VGA OUT to the presenter box VGA IN connector (left).
• Connect the presenter box VGA OUT connector (right) to the projection system.
• (optional) Connect the speaker's laptop AUDIO OUT to the presenter box AUDIO IN (left). Use a FOSDEM supplied jack stereo <-> mini jack stereo cable.
• TODO: CHECKConnect the presenter box AUDIO OUT (right) to the room's speaker system. Use a FOSDEM supplied jack stereo <-> mini jack stereo cable.
• Connect any presenter box ETHERNET to the FOSDEM network uplink.

Camera box

• Connect the camera to the AC outlet.
• Connect the presenter box PSU IN connector to an AC outlet.
• Connect the XLR cables to the camera's XLR IN.
• Connect the camera HDMI OUT to the camera box HDMI IN.
• Connect any camera box ETHERNET to any presenter box ETHERNET.

Boot procedure

• Switch on the presenter box.
• Verify that you get network status information on the presenter box lcd screen.
• Switch on the camera box.
• Verify that you get network status information on the camera box lcd screen.
• Switch on the camera.
• Switch on the speaker microphone.
• Switch on the speaker's laptop.

Is everything working fine?

Checking the public streaming output:

• Navigate to TODO: video stream url.
• camera stream?
• speaker microphone sound? TODO: needs headphones
• slides stream?
• speaker laptop sound? TODO: needs headphones

Checking the local output

• presenter box lcd screen
• network uplink
• (optional) audio volume meter
• slide
• video box lcd screen
• network uplink
• audio volume meter
• image from stream every 5s

Help! Something is wrong!

Don't worry. Video streams from all rooms are being centrally monitored. Chances are we have already noticed.

Slicing the stream into presentations

• Open any html5 enabled web browser.
• Navigate to TODO https://videocut.fosdem.org .
• Authenticate using the credentials you received from your devroom manager, or from the volunteer manager.
• TODO Select presentation.
• Select start point.
• Select end point.
• Submit.
