The purpose of this PR is to remove as many old print debug statements and other messy code as possible, as well as to take care of some of the
TODOcomments. Some print statements will remain in the more experimental parts of the code for future debugging and benchmark use, and someTODOnotes will have to wait until future developments, but I want to take care of as much of it as possible here.
