Installing Skype on Ubuntu Hardy Heron

Newer Ubuntus have skype in the “partner” repos, but there’s nothing like that in older versions such as hardy.
If you haven’t already downloaded an old .deb previously from skype, you’re probably out of luck. If you do manage to get your hands on one, following are the steps for fully installing it. These are especially critical on systems that don’t have an X server installed (i.e. you’re forwarding your X display), because without some of these packages skype may fail to install or just silently fail to start.
- sudo aptitude install lib32stdc++6 lib32asound2 ia32-libs libc6-i386 lib32gcc1 xauth
- sudo dpkg -i skype_ubuntu-2.0.0.72-1_amd64.deb
