Pre commit GitHub action

• adds a GitHub action for running all the previously introduced pre-commit checks automatically
• fix all remaining pre-commit issues
• some refactoring
• speed up the unit test GitHub action by running the tests in parallel with pytest-xdist
• fixes:
  • smtp: fixed hostname leak, deprecation warning fixes
