Rebuilding regularly is good practice to ensure that the used base images are fresh.

Currently our images get quite old if no releases happen.

Generally a good idea. What about using Renovate to check and update the base image versions? That would only re-build the images if there really is a change. I know, this is far more work and we need to somehow overcome our template logic where the base image references are composed and do not contain an sha sum.

That's a nice idea! I'll still merge this to get a basic rebuilding live but will create an issues for optimising it
