I’m Chris Hocking, the original creator of FCPX Hacks which later evolved into CommandPost, a tool that adds automation and additional features to post-production tools such as Final Cut Pro X.

My day job is one of the founders of LateNite Films - a film and television production studio based in Melbourne, Australia. I take care of all the business and technical side of things, including overseeing a lot of our post production - which means I spend a huge amount of time inside Final Cut Pro X.

I definitely don’t consider myself a proper programmer - but I love solving problems using code. In addition to working on CommandPost, I also spend a lot of time working on Hammerspoon, which serves as the “engine” behind CommandPost, as well as maintaining FCP Cafe, Resolve Cafe and very commercial apps sold on the Mac App Store.

Why Sponsor?

CommandPost has been downloaded over 168K times, and has over 2.6 thousand users in our Facebook Group. Every day I get several emails, and social media messages from CommandPost users asking questions and/or requesting new features. Between running a small creative business, and supporting a young family, the amount of time I can devote to CommandPost is fairly limited. Being sponsored would mean I can set more time aside to focus on improving CommandPost.

Goals

Whilst David Peterson focusses on a lot of the big engineering challenges in CommandPost (such as improving test coverage, performance and simpler and improved internal APIs) I tend to focus on new features and pushing the boundaries of what CommandPost can do. As such, some of the areas I’d love to dig into include:

• Adding deeper support for 3rd party applications we use daily such as Adobe After Effects, DaVinci Resolve & mocha Pro.
• Adding support for “universal pasteboard translation” so that you can copy something in FCPX and paste it in Adobe After Effects or Resolve.
• Adding support for new control surfaces
• Ticking off the hundreds of existing things on our to-do list.
