Probably a good idea to work out a cleaner way with upstream.
We are using their bundled gems and this can be extremely fragile :/

Some more patching is required for the
git describecaching mechanism added in 4.3.1 (Homebrew/brew#17292). We should figure out a cleaner way with upstream to override the version detection.
