This page will cover details that are applicable across all parts of the system.

Action Icons

The user interfaces for the system makes use of a set of small orange-coloured icons. An example of the system character sheet with a few of these icons outlined in red is shown below.

Example Character Sheet Action Icons

These icons are clickable and doing so triggers an action of some sort linked with the icon. If you hover your mouse cursor over such an icon then after a moment or so you'll get a little pop up text that will give you some indication of what the action icon is used for. Clicking on the icon will trigger the associated action. When an action is triggered, if there is feedback resulting from the action, then this will generally be sent to the Foundry Chat Log.

Extended Functionality

Some icons, such as many of the dice icons, have functionality that can be changed based on holding down keys on your keyboard. So, for example, holding the Shift key when clicking an action icon to make an Attack Roll or an Attribute Test will do so with Advantage (i.e. 2d20 will be rolled and the lowest die will be the one retained). Likewise, holding the Control (Ctrl) key while clicking on these icons will cause the roll to be made with Disadvantage (i.e. 2d20 will be rolled and the highest die will be the one retained).

Drag & Drop

The system allows you to create various game related entities such as characters, armour and equipment. The Foundry system divides these entities into two distinct categories - actors and items. For the purposes of The Black Hack 2e, actors include characters and creatures and everything else is an item including things like abilities. Actors can 'possess' items, reflecting the fact that characters have equipment and both characters and creatures have abilities. To add an item to an actor, open the actor sheet in Foundry and drag and drop the item you want to associate with them from the item menu. Note that actor sheets will display specific categories of items in their own section and, if an actor sheet does not possess a relevant section, then the item may not be displayed.

Rolls & The Chat Log

Action items linked to dice rolls will frequently drop details of the roll and the associated action into the chat log. These will appear something like the example shown below...

Attack Roll Example

To see details of the roll that was performed to generate this result you can click on the black title bar to expand the area underneath to show the roll formula used and result obtained. This will appear as follows...

Expanded Attack Roll Details

The example shown relates to an Attack roll and shows a 'Roll Damage' button. This button will not be displayed for failed attack rolls or where the associated character damage die is set to 'Other (Consult Abilities)'. Clicking on this button will make the damage roll for the attack and drop details of the result into the chat log, which will look something like the following...

Damage Roll Example

Note that the damage roll is a standard roll so the black title bar can be clicked on to see specifics of the roll formula used and the actual result obtained. Note also, in the case of a critical hit, the damage roll will be doubled.

Accessing The Character Sheet Through Tokens

Note that you can access the character sheet for a token by double clicking it. It is advised that you select the Link Actor Data option from the Token Configuration settings for tokens placed on a scene as not doing so will cause elements of the character sheet functionality to fail or behave in an unpredictable manner.
