This has been tested on Ubuntu 13.10.

Download the deb file.
Start a terminal window.
Execute sudo dpkg -i ephenation_5.0b1_amd64.deb (or whatever the latest file name is).
There will probably be missing packages. Install by doing sudo apt-get install -fy
On Ubuntu: Start the game from the Dash (I had to log out and log in again to refresh the list).
On Mint: Thew game is found in the Games folder of the start menu.

If the game fails to start, it can also be started from the terminal window (simply called ephenation). This may also show errors messages.
