This page is about the wiki site. Bolded texts are things to work on. We're expecting to have the following tabs on wiki page:

  1. main text
  2. comments
  3. history

Main text:

Markups:

Use markdown right now. Currently supported features:

  • wikilinks (links to wikiwords)
  • citations
  • table of contents

Expecting to add support for:

  • equations.
  • Edit and collapse sections.
  • tables.
  • images.

Need to work on creating wiki-specific fonts and styles.

comments:

This entire section is missing. This contains evaluations of the wiki content and user comments.

  • Show basic stats about the wiki page: (1) # of links from and to this page (2) total # of words (3) # of references (4) # of edits (total/month/year) (5) More...
  • Newly created page start with some issues. (e.g. expand short articles, add references..)
  • User-evaluation of whether the content is complete. They can report issues in comments.
  • Issue types: (1) Fix spelling and grammar. (2) fix wikilinks. (3) expand short articles. (4) check or add references. (5) Add image (6) Improved lead section. (7) Update contents with new information.

User comments can be submitted in several different categories. Categories: (1) report issues (issues listed above) (2) request content (3) discuss opinions. (4) other. User comments can also be voted by other users on the priority from low to high. Comments will have three status: (1) Initialized (red) (2) Progress (green) (3) proposing close(yellow) (4) Closed. (grey)
Comments in progress means that there has been some effort on improving on that comment after the comments are made. Users can propose close on a certain comments, and it will be evaluated by moderators. When user edit the wiki, he/she can specify which comment he/she worked on. When user comments are addressed, moderators can close/deactivate the comment. Invite interested/experienced users to contribute to pooly-developed wiki.

Page history and contribution:

  • Save version history of each revision.
  • currently using "google-diff-match-patch" to find the difference between revisions.
  • will show the contributions from users just like in github. (+/- number of lines)
  • If a revision changes a fair amount of content in the wiki (especially deleting >1000 characters), the revision will be held "pending", instead of being automatically "approved".

permissions:

  • wiki pages will have three status
    • Open: Every registered user is allowed to edit the wiki. [Do we want anonymous user to edit?]
    • Semi-protected: Only registered user beyond a certain reputation could edit.
    • Protected: Only moderator and designated user could edit the wiki.
  • Allow a maximum number of edits for each user every 24-hrs.
  • If a user/IP is found to jeopardize the wiki content, the user/IP will be warned/disabled/blocked.

miscellaneous:

  • How citations should work in wiki?

    • Should avoid preference in citing scholarly material
      • Cite earliest mention?
    • avoid citing too many review paper?
    • Areas in debate should present supporting citation of both.
  • has a part that introduce the public data repositories.
