Photo Position Finder
This app will finalize the NEA submission spreadsheet by gathering latitude and longitude from the .gps files for the date and time specified. From this position, “Area” will be determined. The final spreadsheet created is a CSV which filters for records based on the presence of photographer data (so this must be entered) and fills down the “Obs”, “Platform”, and “Image Type”.
Before you get started, save the submission spreadsheet as a CSV. If working from the network, put this csv in the "Image Submission" folder for that year.
In the app, you will have to specify the following fields:
2. CAMERA TIME ZONE: Select the time zone of the times entered on the spreadsheet. If you have a submission of multiple time zones, break up data into separate CSVs per time zone.
3. YEAR: Enter the four digit year for the folder where you have stored the CSV. This should also be the same as the year entered in the spreadsheet for the data. If you have a submission that spans multiple years, break up the data in separate CSVs per year.
5. PERMIT NUMBER: Enter the permit number(s) (i.e. MMPA 12345). This will be added to the “Notes” column preceded by “Permit Number: ”. You can also leave this blank if you do not want to append this information (i.e. it's already indicated in the "Notes" field).
Press "GET POSITIONS" and a time counter will pop up in the lower right to indicate how the process is going. Once it's finished, a map will display all the positions of the photographed sightings, and a CSV with added position, area, observer, platform, and image type information will appear in the “Image Submission” folder for that year if the "Network" pathway was selected. It will be labeled “NEFSC Sighting Data Table_Twin Otter_[system date].csv”. Rename this whatever you want and save as a workbook if you’d like.
