Create puzzles and hints
The third step of creating an educational escape room in Escapp is outlining the puzzle structure and providing specific hints for each puzzles in case students get stuck.
By clicking the "add puzzle" button, a new puzzle will be created. Then, you will need to provide some information about the puzzle:
First, you will need to provide a name for the puzzle that allows you to identify it, along with a brief description. Then, you need to provide the right answer for the puzzle, which students will need to figure out by solving the challenges provided in the escape room. You must then specify whether students will be submitting the solution to this puzzle manually (by introducing the solution directly in the team interface provided by Escapp) or automatically (by using Escapp's API from an ad hoc software application). In case of doubt, select the manual option. You can also provide a message to be shown to students in case they solve the puzzle correctly, and another one if they provide a wrong answer.
In addition, you can provide hints for each puzzle. Hints will be handed to students in the order that you set them out in this form. It is a good strategy to start out giving more generic hints and to progressively increase the usefulness of the hints so that the amount of hints requested by students is proportional to the amount of help they need. Moreover, if a puzzle has several parts, you can add different hint categories to match each of the parts of the puzzle. At the time of requesting a hint, students will be asked what category they need help with, ensuring that the hint they get is useful for them at that specific instant.
