Layout, workspaces, panes and tabs

  • By default, TE has only one workspace, and a layout is the same as a workspace.
  • To enable multiple workspaces, use Tab groups add-on.
  • To manage multiple panes (panels), use Split add-on.

Sections of a tab

  • Each tab has a file list (in a view mode such as Icon and Details) and an optional folder tree.
  • When you enable "Windows Explorer" mode ("Show frames" in tab context menu is ticked), you can see a command bar and optional panes.

Positions of buttons and bars

  • You can place buttons and bars in various positions around the layout.
  • A button/bar will appear in every pane if you put it in an "Internal" bar.

Styling

  • TE is based on a web browser (Internet Explorer). You can customize its appearance through CSS using add-ons.
  • Each tab is a barebone Windows Explorer.
    • You can customize its appearance and behaviour using add-ons.
    • Certain options in "Windows Control Panel > Folder Options" are effective in a tab.
