Research and Analysis
Have discussed question: Are we showing that bike infrastructure improves X (health, income) or are we trying to show that bike infrastructure is not distributed equitably? Going with later.
We have a list of potential indicators that will be shared on google docs and linked to here.
In addition to John Amdor's paper on bicycle facilities and economic development, here's a report by the League of American Bicyclists and the Alliance for Biking and Walking on the same topic.
There's also a book called [Bikenomics: How Bicycling Can Save the Economy] (http://takingthelane.com/bikenomics/) by Elly Blue.
Even if there is little research specifically on biking and violent crime, this report from the Prevention Institute might provide some guidance on thinking about the many factors that contribute to violence in a community, and how biking might influence some of those dynamics.
Another promising resource might be [Happy City] (http://thehappycity.com/the-happy-city/) by Charles Montgomery, which discusses how urban design shapes residents' practices and community dynamics.
Interviews with organizers, planners, leaders and activists in communities of color around the country who are working to build connected, all-ages bike networks. Case studies from the following US cities are featured: Atlanta, Denver, Los Angeles, Queens (NY), Harlem, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Seattle.

Not sure if this is the right place to announce this, but I've uploaded a .csv file to the Dropbox directory (inside a new folder called "research_team_data") that contains median household income by Census tract in Cook County, from the ACS 2010 5-year estimates. Here's a link to the file. I know we had discussed trying to break this down by ward, and I'm not sure how to do that.
