Compare 18MS to another 18xx

Here are some highlights of rules in 18MS:

  • Unlimited bank (§3)
  • The initial auction is a draft. In reverse player orders each player buy one of the privates. Remaining privates are removed from the game. The last player to buy a private is Priority Dealer for the SR 1. (§8)
  • 2 ORs per OR set (§8)
  • Game ends after the 10th OR (i.e. after OR 5.2) - no bankruptcies or bank broken (§8)
  • Green phase is started when OR1.2 is started (§8)
  • The first corporation the lays track that connects Chattanooga receives a one time bonus of $50 that is added to its treasury. (§11.4.5)
  • The first company to put a token in New Orleans get a bonus of $100 added to its treasury. The corporation also get a bonus of $10 to all routes that include New Orleans. This route bonus are removed when the first 6 train is bought. (§11.5.1)
  • 2+, 3+, 4+ trains ignore towns for distance, all other trains (including 4D) count all revenue centers for distance. The 2D/4D/5D trains double all stops. (§11.6)
  • In case a president cannot raise enough money during emergency buy of train, the player is forced to take a loan with a direct 50% interest. Debts are repaid automatically whenever player receives money. A player in debt cannot spend any money. If a player is still in debt at the end of an SR the remaining debt is increased by 50%. A debt at the end of game deducts the debt from the final score. (§11.8.3)
  • A president may voluntarily contribute funds to purchase a D train, but only if the company already has a train.
  • (§11.9) The + trains are rusted after certain ORs, but are salvaged for a small rebate
    • 2+ rusted after OR2.2, $20 rebate per (non-free) 2+ train
    • 3+ rusted after OR3.2, $30 rebate per 3+ train
    • 4+ rusted after OR4.2, $50 rebate per 4+ train
  • A corporation run may only include Atlanta once (specified on physical map board)
  • There are two special hexes for tiles
    • Birmingham and Montgomery uses standard tiles up to brown. There is one gray tile, labeled BM, that can be used in either of these two hexes to upgrade to gray.
    • Mobile uses standard tiles up to green, and uses the special brown tile to upgrade to brown.
  • How do I use the Alabama Great Southern Railroad?
    • During the operation round of the owning Major Company, click on the Alabama Great Southern Railroad, and then click on an empty hex and select a yellow tile. If you change your mind, just click on the ability again.
      1. Note! If laid tile or track is not reachable for the owning Major Company there will be a game error message.
      2. Note! It is possible to lay track outside tile laying phase, e.g after a token placement, but this has been deemed to cause no advantages to the Major Company.
  • How do I use the Birgmingham Southern Railroad
    • Similar to Alabama Great Southern Railroad. You need to click on the ability before laying the 2nd tile as well.
      1. Note! If used once, the ability is removed at the end of the acting Major Company operation round.
  • How do I use Meridian and Memphis Railway
    • During token placement phase, click on the Meridian and Memphis Railway, and then do a normal legal token placement. The ability will make this tokening without need of paying anything. If you change your mind and want to use normal tokening, just click on the ability again.
  • How do I use the Mobile & Ohio Railway?
    • During train buy, when 3+/4+ possible to buy, click on the Mobile & Ohio Railway ability in the top part. This will show discounted price (100$ deducted) on any 3+/4+ trains in the depot. If you buy for the discounted price Mobile & Ohio Railway is closed. If you do not want to buy for discounted price just click on the ability again and the normal price is restored.
