Here are some highlights of rules in 18MS:
- Unlimited bank (§3)
- The initial auction is a draft. In reverse player orders each player buy one of the privates. Remaining privates are removed from the game. The last player to buy a private is Priority Dealer for the SR 1. (§8)
- 2 ORs per OR set (§8)
- Game ends after the 10th OR (i.e. after OR 5.2) - no bankruptcies or bank broken (§8)
- Green phase is started when OR1.2 is started (§8)
- The first corporation the lays track that connects Chattanooga receives a one time bonus of $50 that is added to its treasury. (§11.4.5)
- The first company to put a token in New Orleans get a bonus of $100 added to its treasury. The corporation also get a bonus of $10 to all routes that include New Orleans. This route bonus are removed when the first 6 train is bought. (§11.5.1)
- 2+, 3+, 4+ trains ignore towns for distance, all other trains (including 4D) count all revenue centers for distance (§11.6)
- In case a president cannot raise enough money during emergency buy of train, the player is forced to take a loan with a direct 50% interest. Loans are repaid whenever player receives money. A player in debt cannot spend any money. If a player is still in debt at the end of a SR the remaining debt is increased by 50%. A debt at the end of game deducts the debt from the final score. (§11.8.3)
- (§11.9) The + trains are rusted after certain ORs, but are salvaged for a small rebate
- 2+ rusted after OR2.2, $20 rebate per 2+ train
- 3+ rusted after OR3.2, $30 rebate per 3+ train
- 4+ rusted after OR4.2, $50 rebate per 4+ train
- A corporation run maybe only include Atlanta once (specified on physical map board)

- There are two special hexes for tiles
- Birmingham and Montgomery uses standard tiles up to brown. There is one gray tile, labeled BM, that can be used in either of these two hexes to upgrade to gray.
- Mobile uses standard tiles up to green, and uses the special brown tile to upgrade to brown.
